The Tunica, plus the Koroa, Tiou (Tioux), and Yazoo, lived in west-central Mississippi and northeastern Louisiana. Their descendants live in a community near Marksville, Louisiana. They spoke a language isolate in the Macro-Algonkian phylum and numbered only a few dozen in the 1980s.
