The people of Hungary are called Hungarians. The majority of the population are of Hungarian, or Magyar, descent. Minority groups include Gypsies (a little more than 1 percent); Germans, Slovaks, Croats, and Romanians (all less than 1 percent). About 2 million Magyars live outside Hungary in Romania, Slovakia, the former Yugoslavia, and the Ukraine.
