St. Lucia

The people of St. Lucia are called St. Lucians. It is estimated, however, that over 90 percent of the population consists of descendants of slaves brought from Africa in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. About 5 percent of the population is mulatto (mixed race) and about 3 percent is of Indian descent. For more information on Indians, see the chapter on India in Volume 4.
