The people of Mexico are called Mexicans. About 75 percent are mestizoes, a mixture of Amerindian (native people) and Spanish heritage. Another 10 percent are pure Amerindian, 15 percent are pure white, and 1 percent fall into some other category, including black.

The Black populations arrived there due to the slave trade that Portugal set up originally. The indigenous populations began to die out due to disease and senseless violence. The alternative work force became African slaves to work in the mines of Guanajuato as well as the fields of maiz or corn.
